April 6, 2012

With the recent changes to the gallery we are proud to reopen with the most inspiring and playful show yet! The Whimsy! Featuring Artists: ALLISON WEEKS THOMAS Art and creative writing have long been passions of the Eastern North Carolina native, Allison Weeks Thomas. As a child, she envisioned her future career as a writer and illustrator of books living in the Big Apple. That was until she realized that the Big Apple was not a shiny red fruit inhabited by a bespectacled, fedora wearing green inch worm with a waist coat. While her choice of the ideal location changed, Allison’s love for the creative ...

AND one of the things we love most here...  being the use in Nature and animals in artwork. We have a wonderfully talented artist from Asheville, Leslie Samuels, who wields dynamic creatures from  Mummified animals, wings and things while intertwining it with Nature to create a dramatic and fanciful effect. ...

Memento Mortis: A New/Old Kind of Memory Jewelry

May 30, 2011

Memento Mortis: A New/Old Kind of Memory Jewelry The idea of memorial or sweetheart jewelry is a very old one. Trinkets featuring a lover's name or likeness, or commemorating the death of someone important, exist as far back as Ancient Egypt. It's heyday, however, was during the Victorian Era, the later half of the 19th century. Today, we take for granted that we can have photographs of the people that we love, something that reminds us of them whether they are still with us or whether they have shuffled off this mortal coil. Most of us have tiny cameras attached to our phones, ...

2 Wicked Artist’s work used in ABC series!

March 18, 2011

Wicked reserves the right to brag endlessly on artists in the gallery, especially when they continually achieve greatness. Carolyn Colby has by far outsold anything that I have put in the Wicked. She continues to impress the masses with her vivid ideas, swirls of imagination and bubbles, like thoughts, holding glimpses of organic realism. She is a draw and most take her fantasies home with them. Rarely has Wicked or Feral Art Collective taken on an artist in the management sense, but after careful consideration and at the behest of the artist we are nothing more than flattered to do so. We see ...

6 local artist chosen to tour with Steampunk Circus Show!

March 7, 2011

Surely it is apparent that we here at Wicked do not have to tell you how excited we are about hosting the Steampunk Circus in the gallery on Saturday, April 16th! Gabriel Lehman Solo Exhibition!

March 4, 2011

[caption id="attachment_1143" align="aligncenter" width="219" caption="Gabriel Lehman"][/caption] Saturday April 9th One Wicked Gallery will be unveiling Gabriel's Massive collection of new works, inspired by his recent move from Wilmington to Indiana. Lehman's work is easily recognizable from his whimsy, free, elongated silhouettes and lanky limbs. The landscapes are Burton-esque with fantastic creatures often gliding gently, hopping with toes barely brushing the petals of stylized flowers teetering in the wind. Vintage window frames give insight into the soul of the artist, allowing each piece to unfurl an emotional narrative. His style stirs up childhood memories of simpler times when imagination could just run ...

LYKY design… Loves you Kill you..

February 24, 2011

Despite the endless things that you can bring into the genre the definition of Steampunk remains virtually the same throughout. From Christian Fantasy's definitions... it's A subgenre of Alternate History; this generally deals with advanced technology in the altered past. Wiki's short and sweet version... A subgenre of speculative science fiction set in an anachronistic 19th century society. To the more in depth ramblings of scifipedia and monstercommute ... Steampunk is set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often set in Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction ...

Velvet… scenes from the breather show.

February 19, 2011

The Velvet  Show idea appeared one day while sitting in Artfuel jabbering with Dave Tollefson. I think he was just telling us about the three old velvet pieces he bought for next to nothing... (which ended up being that stunning Indian and John Wayne on display in Wicked.) "We should do a Velvet show here... in Artfuel" I said. Now Dave. sharing the same grumpy disposition to a "T" as me sometimes, not always shares the wacky side of my sense of humor... So we had a good chuckle and moved on. The idea of Velvet kind of stuck though. I ...

Feral Art and Wicked’s Media Past and Present

January 24, 2011

Feral Art Collective and Wicked Both love to make waves. This is not necessarily a bad thing. We mostly do it for exposure of our artists and to present the public with an option to view varying art forms, make decisions for themselves and have the ability to appreciate art that is different. With that being said, we have never really been ones to subscribe to the "any press is good press" opinion. We don't feel being infamous is a beneficial as executing your goal the right way. We feel both Feral and Wicked have been very lucky with their ...
