ARI LEHMAN is the actor/singer who has the unique honor of having played the role of the First Jason Voorhees in the Paramount Classic Horror Film “Friday the 13th” (1980). The original “Boy In The Lake” himself, Ari played a crucial role in the film’s famous final scene, in which he suddenly emerges from the icy waters of Crystal Lake. Working with Special Effects Master Tom Savini at an early age gave Ari a deep appreciation for the Horror Greats including Lon Chaney, Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff and Vincent Price. At 1am you will be free to explore the ship on your own terms and head back to areas you may have seen, heard, or felt something.

SPECIAL PERKS FOR VIP TICKET HOLDERS! You will get to enter the event 30 minutes early, which means NO WAITING IN LINE. You will be served a pizza dinner! You will get additional time to meet the guests before the doors open. ALLISON WEEKS THOMAS


Art and creative writing have long been passions of the Eastern North Carolina native, Allison Weeks Thomas. As a child, she envisioned her future career as a writer and illustrator of books living in the Big Apple.
That was until she realized that the Big Apple was not a shiny red fruit inhabited by a bespectacled, fedora wearing green inch worm with a waist coat.
While her choice of the ideal location changed, Allison’s love for the creative did not. She attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where, after nearly a decade, she earned her BA in Studio Art in 2004.
After managing a small beach market, taking real estate photography, and slinging salads at an eatery, Allison realized that she needed more schooling. So she packed up her husband, her two dogs, and her pen and inks, and headed to the deeper and dirtier south, where she earned her MA in Illustration Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2009.
As mom to three and half year old London, Allison is trying to balance the joys of mommyhood with her passion for mixed media and illustration. When she grows up, she aspires to to be an illustrator and writer of children’s books. Allison currently calls  beautiful  Asheville, North Carolina home.

SHANNON STAMEY

Shannon states that he can’t play music, so he has to paint instead… The work on his website is a collection of artwork he’s created over the past few years and wanted to share with anyone willing to take a look. If Little Nemo traveled through the forests of Grimm’s Fairytales to find Little Red Riding Hood at the Moulin Rouge, this is what his journey would look like. His current playlist to all his works includes Autolux, Grizzly Bear, Unsane, Helmet, and Smashing Pumpkins. Hopefully you can see how this music helps feed his work. Enjoy some of the scenery. Everything is oil, pencil and pastel on paper or canvas.

Brittny Roller

Wilmingtonian’s are no stranger to the beautiful girl with the pretty smile who’s undeniable talent extends outward into everything she does. Proclaiming Ceramics as her main study she can also be seen producing whimsical images for her honey’s band Justin Lacy and the Swimming Machine, or emotion stirring images on film. What you will see at the gallery the night of the show is amazing new ceramic Mask works in Raku and other earthly natures.

Here is a piece of Brittny’s naked clay (mostly because we don’t want to give too much away :) Brittny hasn’t shown her ceramics in over 2 years  so come out and see what magic her fingers have been producing all this time!

Gabriel has teamed up with gallery owner and photographer, Christina Cole to bring you spectacular and unusual renditions of his work on top of photographs of Cole’s natural and local settings. Beautiful luminescent skies full of brilliance and color featuring fairytale trees and Wilmington’s indigenous landmarks with a story on top as only he can tell it. Oh and there is more…

Wicked’s newest art show featuring some of the finest photographers and artists on the east coast. This shows concentration will be on 2 things… the artful figurative form in contrast at how we look at nudity publicly and our intense visions of what we find artful in the human form. AND one of the things we love most here…  being the use in Nature and animals in artwork. We have a wonderfully talented artist from Asheville, Leslie Samuels, who wields dynamic creatures from  Mummified animals, wings and things while intertwining it with Nature to create a dramatic and fanciful effect. Miranda Duncan will be creating a large scale display for your perusal!

Personal:

I was born August 7th 1963 in Erie PA.

In 1981, I attended The Cleveland Institute of Art where I majored in enameling and textiles. In 1983, I transferred to The Art Institute of Chicago, to major in performance art and electro- acoustics. From 1986-89, as a fellow at the University of California, San Diego, I studied art, ethnography, and music. I graduated with an M.F.A.

During graduate school, I designed performances featuring musical sculptures I created made from reclaimed animal parts and bones,  as well as exhibiting poetic sculptures that had, as their centerpiece, mummified animals.

In 1990,  I co- founded “Wild Child Productions” an independent performance art collaboration.  “Wild Child” occupied and performed within a 10,000 sq. ft. space in the defunct First Baptist Church  in downtown San Diego, CA. from 1990-94.

In 1994,  The members of  “Wild Child” moved to New York City to collaborate with “Mustard Inc.” an avant garde performance group utilizing the dilapidated Williamsburg waterfront as theater in Brooklyn, NY.

While maintaining a unified identity and staging events, Wild Child members  also pursued  a variety of independent projects in NYC.  I became interested in lighting design for the theater and the gallery. The last years of my time in New York City were increasingly concerned by this field.  I was employed as a lighting designer, stage electrician, rigger, and stage hand for independent theater, off Broadway theater, retail, and fashion shows. My time in New York culminated with a performance at the Norfolk Synagogue, “Oransanz Foundation” space on new year’s eve. A spectacle of light and sound that was for me the epitome of what I could practically accomplish. At this same time I was incorporating elements of light and transparency in my sculptural work as well.

In 1999, I moved to the Appalachian Mountains outside of Asheville, NC.  Here, I have entered a new medium of sculpture, cutting stone to create  inlayed scenes. I am at the same time, still very much involved in working with mummies, dead animals, and now, human ashes. I am currently making sarcophagouses and crypts from inlayed stone,- granite, marble, travertine, slate…mountains cut thin.

    We are very excited to have Govina Taylor coming to Wicked to teach a class on Tarot! Govina has been practicing this art form for years and teaches classes throughout NC mainly focusing in Fayetteville where she runs the “Occultist Book Club!” By definition The word “Occult” is an umbrella term encompassing anything secret, esoteric, mystical or beyond human understanding. (so leave the ookie spookie assumptions at the door… please get familiar!)

    Those who are not familiar with the art and science of Tarot here is a brief description.

    Tarot is a mystical and magical system of divination used for self understanding, mastery of life lessons, and predicting the future. The Cards are pictures that contain ‘hidden symbolic knowledge,” or “occult information” that a trained student can see, understand, and interpet.

    Govina will be going through a well planned lesson on teaching you how to read and interpret the cards by using specifically the cards meanings and not intuition. Afterwards, she will break everyone down into pairs and give a demonstration of how to read the cards to another.

We are so lucky to have BROOKE SHADEN coming to Wilmington to do a workshop at Wicked!

BROOKE SHADEN is a fine art photographer who has been shooting since 2008. Brooke shoots only in the square format, which she creates by taking multiple pictures and combining them to create a square frame. Her work is often categorized by a painterly quality and the square format, but also for the dreamlike, fairy tale, surreal quality that they encompass…

Schedule of Events

9AM | This time will be dedicated to a presentation as well as getting to know the needs

of each participant. Portfolios will be shared so we can get a sense of all involved.

This is about YOU!

10AM | As a group, we will be planning a photo shoot to conduct together. Everyone’s input

is welcome as we discuss various stories and techniques that we can put into our

group photo for the day.

Also during this time, each participant will brainstorm ideas for your own unique

picture that will be shot after our group photo shoot. This is YOUR idea and you

should photograph what you are passionate about.

11AM | We will all work together and shoot the group photo that was brain stormed in the

previous hour. This is the image that we will edit later in the day together.

12PM | The next two hours will be dedicated time for you to set up your own unique shot to

take away from the workshop. You may utilize the models, props, location, and me

to help with your image.

This is all YOURS, so make it count!

2PM | Lunch will be provided during this time.

3PM | During this time I will edit the image we shot earlier in the day from start to finish in

my style of editing. I will be teaching how to seamlessly edit the various elements

together as well as how to put your own personal stamp on the edit. I will be sharing

tips and tricks of my own, such as texturing a photograph and expanding the frame.

5PM | Our day ends here, but I will be giving you a tutorial DVD to take home so we can

hang on just a little bit longer!

The cost of the workshop helps to cover travel expenses, location rental, model payment, and food provisions (breakfast and lunch will be provided).

Gabriel Lehman Opening Exhibit

Opening night is Friday January 6th 2012 at 8pm and the Exhibit will run through Wednesday, February 22nd 2012

As you know we have a great fondness for Gabriel’s work as do millions of other people. So it is only appropriate that we pay tribute to his incredible NEW works in Wicked’s NEW space!

Join us for an evening of exquisite work and wonderful company as we celebrate the fantastic new characters of Gabriel’s world.

And the Saturday and Sunday to follow Gabe will be teaching a seminar on painting, how he does it in “his world.”  Be sure to sign up because spaces will fill fast!

Gabriel’s Class Instruction Information…

Classes are Saturday January 7th 2012 and Sunday January 8th 2012 /12pm thru 4 pm both days!

It is a 2 day class (the same class 2 separate days.) So you need to pick which day works best for you Saturday the 7th or Sunday the 8th.
*** The class will be 4 hours with a 30 minute lunch break if you would like.
*** Each class will be limited to 15 people only.
*** The class will be $45

Gabriel will be building a 1ft by 2ft panoramic surface with texture applied for each person taking the class.
You will need to bring your own paint and painting accessories… brushes, cleaner, rags etc. whatever you use to paint. (Note cheap walmart craft paint work splendidly…)

He will be teaching you how to grab light, how to place light in clouds and his wonderful scenic views… in a way which you can place your own special characters and or whatever you choose inside this wonderland. if you do not finish in the class you will be progressed enough to be able to work and continue with the project on your own.

“Our Lady of Guadalupe’s story began in 1531 with a Mexican peasant, blooming flowers in the cold of winter, a beautiful and miraculous image, and a church built on a hill. Her continuing message is of love, compassion and freedom. The Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be celebrated on December 12 this year.

In addition to an opening celebration for the art show, there will also be a screening of “Frida” in Wicked’s movie room, and an altar will be created in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

There will be a shrine set up in the front window so that anyone and everyone can pay their respects to loved ones or ask for Miracles… this can include pictures, flowers, candles, paper with loved ones names written on it, gifts, toys, beads, something that resembles something personal, or milagros…

Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art school is the world’s premier alt.drawing movement. Artists draw glamorous underground performers in an atmosphere of boozy conviviality. Found in 2005 in a dive bar in Brooklyn, Dr. Sketchy’s has now spread to over 100 cities around the world.

•WHO GOES TO DR. SKETCHY’S?

Lots of people. Fancy pants gallery artists, art students, dog walkers, jewelry designers, tattoo artists, illustrators and cubicle slaves. We have about 40% non-professional artists. Slightly more girls attend than boys.

•DO I HAVE TO BE AN ARTIST TO ATTEND DR. SKETCHY’S?

No. Lots of people who have never drawn before attend Dr. Sketchy’s. We’re a fun, non-judgmental environment to try your hand at drawing.

•DO SERIOUS ARTISTS GO TO DR. SKETCHY’S?

Yes, including world famous ones like Ron English, Alasdair Grey and Audrey Kawasaki. While we are accepting of non-artists, there’s no reason you can’t go to Dr. Sketchy’s to seriously get your draw on.

•I’M A PHOTOGRAPHER, CAN I SHOOT PICTURES OF YOUR HOTTIE MODELS?

Maybe. Many branches have their own official photographers and no branch wants their sessions to devolve into fifty creepy men shooting cellphone photos. We recommend you get in touch with the branch in your city and ask. But don’t be disappointed if you ‘re turned down.

(YES, the Wilmington Branch accepts photographers but you MUST contact us first and get permission. This makes sure that there is room for another photographer and that we do not crowd or interrupt the ones already selected. You will have to contact Christina Cole @ onewickedgallery@gmail.com.)

Shibari by definition is…

Kinbaku (緊縛?) means ‘tight binding Kinbaku-bi (緊縛美?) which literally means ‘the beauty of tight binding’. Kinbaku (also Sokubaku, bakujojutsu, and senyojo jutsu) is a Japanese style of bondage which involves tying up the bottom using simple yet visually intricate patterns, usually with several pieces of thin rope–often jute.

Bring your Pencils, Sketchpads or your camera for this visually stimulating performance. Or just bring yourself and watch!

The National Steampunk Circus tour that involved so many Wilmington and local NC artists is coming to a close in Ft. Lauderdale this month and all of our wonderful artist’s work will be back at Wicked! The remainder of the Show was being exhibited in Miami, Florida by WeMerge Magazine and then by JM Family Enterprises in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida along Artserv in Ft. Lauderdale as well. Artserv’s Steampunk exhibit ran the last chapter of the tour for their opening of the Steampunk Legion on November 5th and was hosted by Sinthetic Designs!

Wicked will be receiving the showcased art from Kristi Howard, Scott Ehrhart, Sam Guin and Christina Cole in a few short weeks and will hang it in the gallery for everyone to check out that might have missed the show. Artist’s are also welcome to pick up their work when it is in or leave it for us to ooogle for a time as well! Here are some of the guidelines of what we are looking for if you think this fits you…
1) Wicked has a reputation involving specific types of art (which we are broadening) but do not feel that this limits you in anyway with your artistic process. We do not shun any kind of art and are not representing one form or another. Everything and every artist is welcome.

2) We are looking for professional, self starting, stable and independent people. ( You are not obligated to participate in everything in the gallery or you can, your choice… We also do not want to be your parents. Your space is your own and you come and go as you please.)

3) Financially stable people that will make a commitment to renting a space and do as they say they will do. This is a priority and should be looked at as a responsibility. Like an adult would do. I’d love to give everyone a free place to express themselves but this is just not possible… things cost money and therefore, just like your rent, every month at the same time we would expect, well… “rent” after a commitment.

4) your perks are as follows… with the rent (utilities are included)
You hang at no expense to you with a reduction in commission
Access to dark room and developing activities, classes, shows, press and all the excitement that we usually generate. Consistent hanging in the gallery and priority at all shows. You become part of a team. A cool upstairs, personally locked room, access to downtown and tourism and all the amenities that downtown has to offer.

5) With that being said… team player. That means… superstars, attitudes, entitlement issues and all the usually snobbery gets left at the door. It’s not what we are about and it’s not unlike us to tell you to get bent if you play clique games. Serious artist types with a good, positive attitude that are SERIOUS about their work and not just in it for the facade or face value need apply. Eccentrics are fine… just realize we just aren’t into the who you know and status games *)

In the collaboration with the rescheduling of the Jeff & Oliver Coleman Exhibit.

Jeff Coleman’s Work has been seen in Galleries, Catalogues and Stores nationwide. His sculptures have been featured in Design Tuscano, Medieval Collectables and Museum Replicas LTD. His Sculpture can also be viewed at the Smithsonian Museum’s Fantasy Art Tour and has been purchased as far away as Denmark and Hong Kong.

Coleman was born in Atlanta, Georgia and moved to Athens, Georgia at a very young age where his father, Oliver Coleman became Associate Professor of Art at the University of Georgia. You will also be seeing pieces of his father’s astounding work at this exhibit.

Jeff also has a passion for special effects makeup and props. Work can be seen in an episode of “Tales by the Darkside” directed by FX master Tom Savini! Mr. Coleman has also done effects for the U.S. Military PSYOPS dept. training films!

Jeff’s interests are based in legends, myths and music. He is currently the guitarist, songwriter, and arranger for the trio Flynt, Coleman and Stone.

Her continuing message is of love, compassion and freedom. The Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be celebrated on December 12 this year. In honor of the day, Wicked Gallery is requesting art submissions pertaining to the Virgin Mary or influenced by the Mexican culture. (Wicked Gallery reserves the right to refuse any artwork. All final work must be gallery ready).

In addition to an opening celebration for the art show, there will also be a screening of “Frida” in Wicked’s movie room, and an altar will be created in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Submissions must be delivered 1 week before the show date. No exceptions.

When Dwayne Adams from WeMerge magazine rolled through to pick up everyone’s artwork for the Steampunk Circus tour, he managed to come at just the right time! As we were in the midst of taking down Gabriel’s show to make wall space for the upcoming Steampunk Circus that Saturday. Enamored as most usually are with Gabriel’s unique style and enveloping creations the phone pictures were starting to fly! Wives and friends of the editor and his partner were already picking their favorites! Saturday’s show despite the tornados turned out to be amazing and of course led to an incredible article for Gabriel in WeMerge magazine… a 20,000 copy distribution independent art magazine out of South Florida! Congratulations to Gabriel! And look for his work touring at independent galleries up and down the east coast for the next year!

And well… though we do love our venue and the courtyard and even some of our neighbors it doesn’t seem like Castle Street is the right place for us… we could fill you with a billion excuses like they are raising the rent blah blah blah… but why when we can just tell you that we have a significant amount of other ventures that are in desperate need of our attention. Don’t fret we are looking at other locations… preferably ones that can house a working studio and a fantastic dark room… ideas that we have been tossing around with new partners and such. But until then… we are going to take a little break for the fall and work on some of our festivals and film and video projects with our good talented friends!

That being said… I’d like to request that everyone come get your art in August if you still have work at Wicked! Feel free to ring the shop line and make arrangements!

Its been an awesome and uber successful year and we have had a lot of fun! Thanks for all who have participated and shown their supported. It would have been nothing without ya!
